Things To Do on Vashon Maury Island
There is much to see and do during your visit to Vashon Maury Island. The area contains a wealth of picturesque beaches, woodlands, and lagoons to explore. In total, the islands have over 45 miles of waterfront to discover. Additionally, Vashon Maury is home to a rich arts and culture community.
Point
Robinson Park

Right down the street from LaSalle Reserve, Point Robinson is a 10.0-acre shoreline parkand historical and marine conservancy located on the east shore of Maury Island off Point Robinson Road overlooking East Passage. The site has provided fog and lighthouse service for vessels since 1885. The lighthouse has been fully automated since 1978.
The property conserves an extensive sandy beach shoreline that wraps around the point, a saltwater marsh, and upland woodlands. Walking trails and a few picnic tables have been developed along the scenic shoreline providing dramatic views of East Passage, Tacoma, and Mount Rainier, and through the upper wooded slopes. Point Robinson Park is on the Washington state Cascadia Marine Trail for overnight camping and kayakers
Pt. Robinson Stewards have fully restored the two Keepers’ Quarters on the property for use as rentals. Sunday tours of the Lighthouse are generally available mid-May through mid-September. During the off-season, tours can be scheduled by calling. The Ship’s Store Gift Shop is open seasonally on Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 5:00 p.m.
Maury Island Regional Park
Directions: On Maury Island, head south on Dockton Road SW, east on SW 240th Street, south on 59th Avenue SW, and east on SW 244th Street. There is a parking lot and trail access on SW 244th Street.
Maury Island Marine Park is located on the east side of Maury Island. At 303 acres, it is one of the largest undeveloped properties located directly on Puget Sound with more than 1 mile of shoreline. The park provides stunning views of the East Passage, Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountains. The site had significance for early Native Americans and is referenced in a legend about Snake People who arrived from the mainland as part of war party. The parking lot is a 15 min. walk to the partially restored dock.
The park contains rare stands of Pacific Madrone, a salt marsh, eelgrass beds and significant fish and wildlife habitat for such species as great blue herons, bald eagles, kingfishers, chinook salmon, orca, and bull trout.
Lavender Hill Farm

This half-acre certified organic lavender farm with views of Mt. Rainier and the harbor is on charming Vashon Island. Fields and farm store are open seasonally mid-June through July when lavender is blooming. They grow 20 varieties. Their Farm store offers soap, bath and beauty products, and organic essential oil. The Farm is a 1920’s farmhouse that also serves as a vacation rental when owners are not in residence.

Sunbathing, picnicking and wildlife viewing are all available at this Beach. It is the one true sand beach that the Island has thanks to its unique geography. KVI is a beautiful beach that faces the mainland and, if you are lucky enough to catch a low tide, a sand bar the size of a football field will reveal itself to you for all to enjoy. You can easily find parking on the corner of Chautauqua Beach Road SW and SW 204th Street.

Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum

Vashon Heritage Museum Built in 1907 by Norwegian immigrants, our museum home first served as a Lutheran church – a place of worship and study for themselves and their children. Museum Hours: Wed-Sun 1:00-4:00pm Enter the 1907 building and you’re in the story of a special island in the Salish Sea, a local story reflected regionally and in the evolution of American history.

On Vashon-Maury Islands, we have been known for our innovative artist community since the 60’s. Based on the number of working artists who reside here, galleries and art centers, that designation is well-deserved. On the first Friday of every month, all the galleries and art centers — and there are many — open their doors for the festive opening of a new show. Main Street (officially mapped as Vashon Highway SW) is buzzing with visitors strolling from opening to opening. Wine and cheese are scattered among the wonderful creative works visible at every turn, mostly the work of local artists. Music and musicians thrive here as well. Theatre, dance, writing, a new generation of graphic and computer artists all are represented by islanders.
Palouse Winery

Palouse Winery started in the fall of 2003, when owners, George and Linda Kirkish kicked off their business by buying half a ton of Cabernet Franc grapes from the Portteus Vineyard, high on the hillside above the Yakima Valley in Rattlesnake Hills. That first small batch ignited a passion for wine making and determined the course of their future. With expert guidance & regular classes oenology program, they grew their expertise, along with their grape purchases. In early 2005, Palouse expanded into the present-day location on Vashon Island’s north end. Here they currently produce 1,400 cases of handcrafted wine a year.

Jenson Point
This beach has a boat launch ramp, good for power boats. It also is home for Kayak Co where you can rent kayaks and canoes & rowing shells. Classes are also available for all ages. There is a small grassy area with picnic tables along the sandy and cobblestone beach. Toilet is available and ADA-accessible parking.

Dockton Park
This park offers a swimming beach, fishing access, boat launch and moorage facilities, as well as a picnic area with playground. Restroom and showers are available. The Dockton beach is mostly muddy.
Fern Cove
A beautiful 13.5-acre home to water fowl. The shoreline is muddy so wear your boots!

Lisabeula
This is a quiet small 5.5 acres beach with picnic tables. In addition to the Beach and fishing access, ample parking, and hand-carried boat launching are available. This is a campsite on the Washington State Cascadia Marine.
